Penny's First Litter
Penny’s first litter (with Copper). She wanted her babies born on the couch. We convinced her to use the whelping bed, but we had to bring it into the living room and the whole family was there for the arrival of our first pups.
Our beagles are very much a part of our family, and we allow ourselves to follow their lead sometimes. It was flattering love and trust that she wanted to be in such a shared space. Penny is very instinctive, and she’s an excellent mother. After her babies are born she will not leave them. A few hours after the last puppy arrives, she will let us carry her to the door and then she hurriedly takes care of business and runs the whole way back to her babies in the bedroom. Penny is very affectionate and loves to have pups, she will also raise any other puppies and train any other dogs that may come her way. Our best friend kept one out of this litter (Pretty), one also went to a winery.
